OneOncology Answers Questions from Hundreds of Community Oncologists during Practice Freedom Tour

Hundreds of community oncologists, representing more than $1.47 billion in annual oncology drug purchasing commitments, have registered for OneOncology Inc.’s first electronic negotiation event to be held Dec. 11.

The milestone follows the completion of OneOncology’s Practice Freedom Tour, during which doctors, practice administrators, pharmacy managers, oncology nurses and others around the country met face to face with OneOncology executives and discussed how to shift market power and lower drug pricing to community oncologists by combining purchasing power.


“The tour gave us a chance to address misperceptions about OneOncology and present the facts on how we are helping community oncologists overcome the challenge of shrinking drug margins,” said Ben Favret, Vice President of OneOncology. Favret traveled to six cities, led a live webcast and posted a daily blog at www.practicefreedom.org about his experiences during the two-week Practice Freedom Tour. “We were able to set the record straight on a number of issues where certain oncology distributors have misrepresented OneOncology’s abilities and goals. Practices responded extremely favorably as we shared information about OneOncology and how our electronic negotiation technology brings competition and transparency to oncology drug distribution,” said Favret.

The Practice Freedom Tour took OneOncology to Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia and Detroit over a two-week period. In each city, practices were invited to attend either morning coffees or early evening receptions. OneOncology executives also visited with local oncology practices in each city.

In addition, OneOncology held a live webcast from Washington Nov. 13 that drew oncology practices unable to attend the tour events in person. A second live webcast to answer questions will be held on Thursday, November 29 at 3 p.m. “The status quo in oncology drug distribution is not sustainable for practices, many of whom are forced to buy above average selling price (ASP) causing them to lose money and in some cases close doors to patients,” said Favret. “Certain oncology distributors continue to report high profits and have not offered any new solutions to help practices. The ‘wait and see’ approach they advocate only serves to protect distributor profits and accelerate the march to bankruptcy for many oncology practices.”

OneOncology will hold its first electronic negotiation event Dec. 11. Orders for individual drugs will be aggregated from practices across the country, and then distributors will bid to fill those orders at the lowest price during an online negotiation. Similar technology in other industries has been proven to lower prices 3-35 percent. OneOncology is not a distributor, not a group purchasing organization and not an oncology practice.
