I do find the notice odd. It reads as though we would be able to transmit controlled rx's however, I guess the operative work in your article is "supports" not compliant. I have recently spoken with techinical support who advised me that this would not be available until late 2010 or early 2011. I really would like an explanation.

Our practice uses Sage software and ePrescribing w/Emdeon since 2005. We were advised yesterday that their software is not compatible for Controlled substance electronic submission. I find this article contradicts what Emdeon is telling us.

I just hope they allow everyone to keep their same website name.
Medfusion just purchased Medem and I went through great suffering to attempt to change all of our advertising and still haven't changed it everywhere.

NextGen does a great job selling a product, but a very poor job of supporting their product and their clients. The upgrade process is as others have mentioned, a nightmare. Customization? Sure for $250 an hour. Or you can hire an independent contractor for about half the cost. However - then the upgrade process becomes even more of a nightmare. Very steep learning curve, too much content that cannot be separated by specialty, and a cardiology product that looks NOTHING like the rest of the application. I would not recommend this software.

Did you use spell check for your headline? Did you ever hear "i" before "e" except after "c"? Maybe things in Massachusetts are more weird than I thought.
From The Publisher: Yes, but this got missed, thanks for bringing it to our attention!

What should be done instead

I am the manager of my wife's Alternative Medicine MD practice.
Instead of the focus on Electronic Records, my following remark would save tens of billions of dollars.
What should be done is to teach patients to keep a chart of their own important records. President Obama, who is a great speaker, could lead the way, but he won't.
Patients should be given, or mailed, copies of important reports, diagnostics tests, radiology reports, etc.
Instead of moving away from "paper", money would be saved by patients showing "personal responsibility".
Presently, Radiology facilities, for example, only give patients a disk, but no report is available at that time. Most patients are unaware of this.
Responsible patients would be able to carry their important records to other physicians, without any super-complex technology.
Never mind,
This is too simple!

EHR

The EHR in my mind is a medical record with computable data while EMR signifies free text. Structured documentation is the basis for the EHR which means the provider needs to learn a new language for documenting his findings and it varies from one system to the other. If the EHR is to be adopted it needs to be natural to the clinician and not a lot of data that is more or less useless.
There is a way the have the structured data done by the computer using Ontology and Natural Language Processing:it is operational but not scaled so far.

"Practice Fusion" is the need of the hour.
The earlier the better in implementation.
Would it be possible for Globalization of the technology.
Bigger magnanimous organizations should be putting their funds and inputs for technological advancement. Then make it freely available for all the doctors with open minded practicing confidence. This would not only allow for coming together of all the departments together but also development in medical advancements.
Pls. do let me know its developments.
Thank You
