San Mateo Medical Center Selects eClinicalWorks Unified EMR/PM and Patient Portal Solutions
eClinicalWorksTM, a market leader in ambulatory clinical systems, today announced that San Mateo Medical Center has purchased licenses of eClinicalWorks unified electronic medical record (EMR) and practice management (PM) software to streamline practice operations for more than 160 affiliated providers across ten locations throughout San Mateo County in California. It has also chosen eClinicalWorks Patient Portal to aid in improving patient/provider communications. An interface with the Medical Center's Hospital Information System, Siemens Medical Solutions Invision, and e-prescribing functionality, will further automate physicians in their efforts to foster better, more efficient care.
"San Mateo Medical Center is always looking for innovative ways to improve care for the people of San Mateo County," said CJ Kunnappilly, vice president/medical director, Quality Management, of San Mateo Medical Center. "Part of our goal for implementing an ambulatory electronic medical records system is to track chronic care measures, including hypertension and diabetes. With its clinical alerts and registry functionality, eClinicalWorks is a great tool for that initiative. Those coupled with its superior technology, and ease of implementation and maintenance, made our decision to go with eClinicalWorks a clear one."
The Medical Center is implementing eClinicalWorks unified EMR/PM system to streamline the clinical processes between practice locations and promote patient safety while reducing costs and the Patient Portal will promote increased communication between patients and providers. The Medical Center is also utilizing e-prescribing, providing a direct link between the practice and the computer at the pharmacy (not the fax machine), establishing a two-way electronic connection. This initiative is grant-funded with support coming from sources including Kaiser, Avon Foundation, Blue Shield, Safety Net Institute, San Mateo Medical Center Foundation and the Sequoia Healthcare District Foundation.
"Electronic medical records are moving past the phase of passively collecting patient information to actively aiding the physician in managing care," said Girish Kumar Navani, president of eClinicalWorks. "eClinicalWorks is leading this trend with quality of care measures that allow medical staff to provide this type of chronic and preventative care management. Using eClinicalWorks will enable San Mateo Medical Center-affiliated physicians to bring patient care to the next level."
San Mateo Medical Center is an integrated system of healthcare providing inpatient services, outpatient services, and long-term care through a fully accredited 509-bed acute care hospital, skilled nursing facility and 11 clinics located across San Mateo County. It receives more than 220,000 outpatient visits per year. The mission of the San Mateo Medical Center is to serve the healthcare needs of all residents of San Mateo County, with an emphasis on education and prevention, and without regard for ability to pay.
