Google Health To Offer Online Medical Records

Google has tapped into about ever facet of life imaginable. Now the powerhouse search engine company is taking its efforts a step further with potential plans to launch Google Health. Google's plans include the integration of electronic medical records that will allow patients the ability to gain full control over personal files.
Google Health will host an interface for patients to organize medical information via the Internet. The platform essentially takes the control over content away for physicians and into the hands of patients.

With medical information at their fingertips, patients will be able to access medical files regardless of their location. Some physicians have already noted the value in this capability, especially for individuals who travel on a regular basis and may need their records in case of an emergency.

However, patients who utilize Google Health will have the responsibility of updating personal medical information on a regular basis. This not only requires dedication from the patient, but accuracy as well. There is also the question of how medical personnel will access the information. Google Health is not a health care company, therefore privacy laws such as HIPPA do not apply.

Currently Google Health has yet to be launched publicly. The company did, however, recently address its plans to launch the platform. Previous reports indicate Google intends on kicking off its new product before June 2008.
