Using an iPod in conjunction with MicroMemo affords physicians a digital recorder without the added expense of purchasing one. The iPod can be used to record conversations, take notes or rehearse speeches.
MicroMemo offers its users both high and low-quality recording options. The low quality option affords the physician more recording time. For example, a 2G iPod Nano can record 12 hours in low-quality mode or three hours in high-quality mode. An 8G iPod Nano can record up to 51 hours in low quality. That is a lot of recording time.
When using MicroMemo, the microphone should be set away from the iPod unit to avoid picking up noise from the hard drive. Additionally, the microphone is detachable. Therefore, the user can detach the microphone and substitute it with another.
The MicroMemo tool is not limited to nanos. Video-capable iPods are also compatible. It can be purchased for around $40.

XtremeMac recently released a MicroMemo plugin that allows physicians to use their iPod Nano as a recording device. MicroMemo comes with a plug that attaches to the bottom of the iPod. The package also includes a flexible boom microphone for ease of dictation and recording.
