Photoclinic, a Doctor's Photo Reference

They say a picture is worth a thousand words and that is especially true in the medical field. Doctors rely on medical reference photos to help them diagnose and treat patients.

ConsultantLive is UBM Medica US' diagnostic website and it offers a way for healthcare provider to share, collaborate and consult from both their office and their mobile device. ConsultLive has two options: the site based Photoclinic and a new Photoclinic mobile app for Apple devices.

Photoclinic lets doctors view photos submitted by other medical professionals. It reviews all photos on Photoclinic and only the best photos with the most teaching value are displayed on the site.  Just like Photoclinic on the ConsultLive site, the PhotoClinic Mobile app lets doctors see high resolution photos of conditions so they can diagnose and treat them appropriately. The app lets physicians search images and case studies of conditions submitted by office-based physicians and published in ConsultantLive.

It is also possible to browse by anatomy, image type, or diagnosis. After finding the correct diagnosis, doctors simply click on the image for a list of symptoms and treatments. Images can be bookmarked and shared with patients or other physicians.

Photoclinic is available with registration to the ConsultLive site. Photoclinic Mobile is compatible with the iPhone, iPod touch and the iPad. It requires iOS 4.3 or higher. The app is free from the Apple Store.
