Omnio Aims to be a 21st Century Black Bag

Omnio is “a 21st century black bag,” according to Gautam Gulati, Chief Medical & Innovation Officer Physicians Interactive. The goal of the app is to make everything a doctor needs for reference or continuing education just one tap away.

To create Omnio, Physicians Interactive built on their existing relationship with publishers to develop an app with access to journals, calculators and reference materials that medical professional need, but in a way that eliminates information overload.

The app is designed to fit the workflow of physicians and other healthcare workers. It allows users to curate information and show only way is relevant to their specialty.

Available as an iPad app, Omnio is downloadable from the app store. It requires a three-step registration process. The user enters their profile, clicks on a profession (doctor, nurse, pharmacist and a host of others) then identifies their specialty/sub specialty.

Default information appears based on specialty. The user than curates the information so only what is important to them appears on the screen. Users can also customize the home screen so that the most used references and calculators appear on the top of the list.

You can also tag and save specific information within an article. Within Omnio, you can link to a book, chapter, page, or a calculator. To help doctors keep up with their journals there are RSS Feeds for Pub Med other healthcare journals (organized by specialty).

Omnio includes access to a web-based store with 500 titles available. Browse the newest apps available or find a specific app in categories such as drug references, education and training, specialty. Once the title is downloaded, it is available through the Omni app, no need to go outside the app.

Currently, Omnio is only available as an iPad app, but a smartphone app is scheduled for a late summer release. Also, there is an Android platform release in the works.
