Consider Experience When Hiring an IT vendor

If your medical practice is growing faster than you can keep up, it may be time to consider outsourcing some or all of your IT needs. In recent years, outsourcing has become a popular – and acceptable – way to run businesses in a more efficient manner.

Outsourcing allows you and your staff to concentrate on the core objectives of the practice. Additionally, it helps to alleviate administrative burdens and reduces a need for personnel management. In short, outsourcing has a plethora of advantages – if you find the right provider.

The number one quality to look for in an IT vendor, is experience. As a general rule, there are two kinds of vendors. Some vendors have an extensive service background, while others are just getting started in the industry.

When interviewing a vendor with a long history, inquire about their success in the trade. Don’t be afraid to speak with their past and present customers as well. They will be able to provide valuable information. If the prospective vendor is still new to the game, also ask to speak with their current clients. Additionally, make sure the vendor has the resources and technology necessary to provide quality service. If this vendor has offered different services in the past, look at their success rates in those ventures. This will provide an idea as to how they may perform in the future.

Along with reviewing an IT vendor’s experience, it is also important to ask the following questions.

  • How will they ensure quality?
  • Do they have the most advanced equipment on the market?
  • Do they guarantee cost-reduction (which they should)?
  • What kind of organizational culture does the vendor subscribe too, and will this culture compliment yours?
