CMS Updates Patient Record Fee Info

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid has clarified its rules for charging patients fees to access their patient records. So reports Fierce EMR.

The CMS advises that, under Meaningful Use, it is not appropriate to charge patients a fee when they electronically view, download or transmit their health information. The CMS distinguishes this access from situations where records are provided to a patient in response to a request. Those requests are governed by HIPAA's Privacy Rule.
