Word Choices Can Negatively Impact Patient Outcomes

 

The words a doctor uses while talking with a patient can negatively affect the patient outcome. So reports the BBC.

Subtle cues from the words, such as describing the side effects of a medication, can actually cause the patient to experience the side effects. Also, if the doctor chooses words that create a negative impression, such as ‘bad news’ or ‘damaging,’ the patient can actually begin to feel more ill.
