Just One Question - Dr. Eric Price

Dr. Eric Price, How has Allscripts HealthMatics EHR affected your daily practice?

Allscripts HealthMatics EHR has let me manage my patients more efficiently. I am able to keep track of everything going on with a patient from any location. From my office, in an exam room with the patient, or at my house through a secure VPN connection, I’m able to assist. Most importantly, it lets me communicate with my nurse more easily, and we are able to handle and take care of all issues that come up throughout the day. It has helped us work better as a team. I can order lab tests and get results back through bi-directional interfaces we have set up with our in-house and outside lab. We are currently working on interfaces with a nearby hospital and imaging center.

It has also become a springboard for moving our practice forward in becoming more financially efficient and improving our quality of care. We have reduced chart storage by 50 percent in just a few months, freeing up precious office space in our small family practice clinic. We are starting plans for adding one to two more providers. This has also freed up employee time in pulling charts. We are using the EHR to collect data that insurance companies require for quality bonus measurements. The EHR has let us create plans to become pro-active in making sure we are up to speed on all of the various measures that they require. Our plans for this year also include implementing the DOQ-IT and PQRI programs and using the EHR to collect our own data to audit ourselves on preventive medicine and chronic disease management.
