Docs Could Lose Money if they Adopt EHRs and Nothing More

The University of Michigan has conducted research that shows physicians who move to an electronic health record system, but don’t make any other additional changes to their practice, could eventually lose money, reports Health Canal.
If a practice doesn’t take steps to enhance revenue and cut costs for things such as services no longer needed, the $44,000 federal incentive for switching to the electronic health record will not be enough to offset future losses.
