Government Tries to Ramp-Up Medical Privacy, Security

Lapses in security and data breaches are impeding the effort to convert to electronic health records, reports the New York Times. In order to prevent further breaches and ensure further electronic record adoption the government is attempting to enforce existing medical privacy and security rules.

Defense Dept., Veteran Affairs Test Joint EHR System in Hawaii

The Department of Defense and the Veterans Affairs have begun testing its new joint electronic health record system in Hawaii. The system will provide users from both agencies with a common view of a patient’s records, reports Government Health IT.

North Dakota's HIE Gains ONC Approval

North Dakota recently received approval from the Office of the National Coordinator for its statewide health information plan. According to Healthcare IT News, North Dakota is working with the tech company Helix. The goal is get the health information exchange self-sustainable by 2015.
