EHRs May Help Spot Autism

The Indiana University School of Medicine and the Regenstrief Institute conducted a study to see if the use of an electronic health record (EHR) with a special autism screening module could improve the early screening results. They found that adding the module helped detect problems earlier and improved screening rates. So reports Fierce EMR.

The study involved adding an open-source Child Health Improvement through Computer Automation system (CHICA) to the clinical decision module. Of those surveyed, 70% reported that the CHICA ensured they followed the recommended screening guidelines.
